چکیده

The exposure time and the time between successive exposures were varied in a picture recognition task. Exposure times of .2, .5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 sec. were orthogonally combined with between-slide durations of 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 sec. Confidence ratings of recognition increased monotonically with exposure time but were not affected by the amount of time between slides. These results suggest there is no direct analog of verbal rehearsal in the processing of complex visual information. Complex pictures appear to be processed almost entirely during the period in which they are physically exposed.

Recoding, storage, rehearsal and grouping in verbal short-term memory: an fMRI study.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of healthy volunteers is used to localise the processes involved in verbal short-term memory (VSTM) for sequences of visual stimuli. Specifically, the brain areas underlying (i) recoding, (ii) storage, (iii) rehearsal and (iv) temporal grouping are investigated. Successive subtraction of images obtained from five tasks revealed a network of left-late...

A Model for Visual Memory TaskSj

A model for visual recall tasks was presented in terms of visual information storage (I—AV), scanning, rehearsalt and auditory information storage (A1S). It was shown first that brief visual stimuli are stored in VIS in a form similar to the sensory input. These visual "images" contain considerably more information than is transmitted later. They can be sampled by scanning for items at high rat...

The role of inferior parietal and inferior frontal cortex in working memory.

Verbal working memory involves two major components: a phonological store that holds auditory-verbal information very briefly and an articulatory rehearsal process that allows that information to be refreshed and thus held longer in short-term memory (A. Baddeley, 1996, 2000; A. Baddeley & G. Hitch, 1974). In the current study, the authors tested two groups of patients who were chosen on the ba...

Overlapping mechanisms of attention and spatial working memory.

Spatial selective attention and spatial working memory have largely been studied in isolation. Studies of spatial attention have provided clear evidence that observers can bias visual processing towards specific locations, enabling faster and better processing of information at those locations than at unattended locations. We present evidence supporting the view that this process of visual sele...

Understanding phonological memory deficits in boys with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): dissociation of short-term storage and articulatory rehearsal processes.

The current study dissociated and examined the two primary components of the phonological working memory subsystem--the short-term store and articulatory rehearsal mechanism--in boys with ADHD (n = 18) relative to typically developing boys (n = 15). Word lists of increasing length (2, 4, and 6 words per trial) were presented to and recalled by children following a brief (3 s) interval to assess...
